The State of Maryland Audiologists, Hearing Aid Dispensers and Speech-Language Pathologists Regulations specifically state the testing requirements for fitting a hearing aid. Licensed providers must minimally test:

  • Air conduction at 500 Hz, 1000 Hz, 2000 Hz, and 4000 Hz (with appropriate masking, when needed)
  • Bone conduction at 500 Hz, 1000 Hz, 2000 Hz, and 4000 Hz (with appropriate masking, when needed)
  • Use of Speech stimuli

See Chapter 8, Section .08 for more information.

Additionally, testing must be completed within 6 months of the hearing aid sale and the FDA medical clearance/waiver is still in place. (See January’s Tip.)
